Peanuts at its raw, charming beginning

This is such a treat if you love comics history or just have a soft spot for Charlie Brown’s world. You get to watch Schulz invent the voice, rhythm, and heart of Peanuts in real time, with early versions of Snoopy, Lucy, and Linus that feel surprisingly fresh. It’s the kind of book fans adore because it’s both deeply nostalgic and full of little discoveries.

Description

The first volume in the archival series collecting the Peanuts comic strip. This volume covers the first two and a quarter years of the strip and includes material that has rarely been reprinted. Schulz was still honing his craft, and early strips feature character designs that differ from the later familiar cast. Schroeder, Lucy, and Linus appear as infants at first, and Snoopy is introduced as a puppy. The volume includes Garrison Keillor's introduction, a biographical essay by David Michaelis (Schulz and Peanuts), and an in-depth 1987 interview with Schulz by Gary Groth and Rick Marschall, all presented with design by Seth.
