Market Smart: The Best in Age and Lifestyle-Specific Design

Dissecting design's appeal to specific consumer demographics.

If you're in the business of creating or marketing products, "Market Smart" might just be the hands-on guide you need to understand your audience better. It's noted for focusing on the 'who' rather than the 'what' which is a refreshing perspective that provides insights into targeted age groups and lifestyle-driven design. Demystifying the design process by showing how to appeal to various segments, from Gen X to baby boomers, could give you that competitive edge you've been looking for.

Note: While we do our best to ensure the accuracy of cover images, ISBNs may at times be reused for different editions of the same title which may hence appear as a different cover.

Description

More than 500 age-, gender-, and lifestyle-specific designs from around the world. Learn how top designers target the tastes and trends of their clients to market products specifically for them. Organized by consumer groups with the greatest purchasing power, Market Smart reveals how to target kids, parents, tweens and teens, sports enthusiasts, Generations X & Y, foodies, and baby boomers by exploring all elements of marketing design—from print and multimedia advertisements to catchphrases, mascots, logos, product packaging, retail environments, and promotions. Unlike many graphic design books that focus on what designers create (logos, brochures, product packaging, etc.), Market Smart shifts the focus to whom they are creating for. The book highlights effective age-, gender-, and lifestyle-specific designs from around the world and shows how designers use the tastes, trends, and backgrounds of consumers to market products accordingly. Chapters are divided by demographics and psychographics, with demographic chapters featuring introductions by successful designers, marketers, and industry leaders. A complete index is included.
