Plato's Republic

“Plato's Republic”, Professor Richards says, is – along with the Bible – the foundation book of Western society. It is concerned with what man is and should be. Whitehead said that 'Western thought is most compendiously described as a series of notes on Plato'. Every generation makes it own effort to come to terms with the “Republic”, and Professor Richards's new version is a contribution to this debate.
