Early Peanuts charm, history, and heart

This is such a treat if you love seeing an icon become itself in real time. You get the warmth and wit people adore in Peanuts, but with the extra fascination of watching Lucy, Linus, and Snoopy slowly grow into the characters everyone knows. It feels both cozy and historically special, especially because so many of these strips were hard to find for decades.

Description

The second volume of The Complete Peanuts series, reprinting Charles M. Schulz's Peanuts from 1953–1954. This volume covers Peanuts' third year and introduces a growing cast: Charlie Brown, Shermy, Patty, Violet, Schroeder, Lucy, Linus, and Snoopy. By the end of 1954, Pigpen joins the group. Linus, who begins to emerge as a more complex and endearing character, acquires his security blanket. Charlie Brown remains the lovable, often-humiliated hero, while Lucy asserts herself as a central figure, sometimes described as a “fussbudget.” Snoopy's appearances here show him behaving more like a dog, with early signs of his later, more elaborate imagination. Many daily and Sunday strips in this volume had not been reprinted in other Peanuts collections.
