“The Turn of the Screw” is both typical of this period and yet exceptional. On the one hand, though commissioned by a popular magazine, it reflects James's moving toward his later phase of the involuted style and the technique of the restricted point of view; on the other hand, like Daisy Miller, it was immediately, successfully popular.

Binding of book is intact. Heavy foxing and shelfwear on covers of book. Heavy tanning and some foxing on edges of book. Annotations in pen and pencil and few waterstains on inside of front cover. Some foxing on insides of covers. Slight foxing on certain pages.
