Description
Captain William Reginald Hall, R.N., became Director of Naval Intelligence in 1914. By the end of the war his name and fame had spread all over the world. The ranks of those who served under him are now thinned. Admiral James is the only officer who served under him as Lieutenant and Commander afloat, and was also in charge of Room 40, where the secret intelligence was handled. He thus writes with personal knowledge of a friend and chief, who played such a large part in winning the 1914-18 war.
