Description

The Cats gathers John Coltrane, Tommy Flanagan, Idrees Sulieman, and Kenny Burrell in a 1959 New Jazz session with Doug Watkins on bass and Louis Hayes on drums, delivering a taut hard bop set built around Flanagan's compositions. This edition, part of Craft Recordings Original Jazz Classics Series, was issued in December 2023 as a 180-gram RTI vinyl with all-analog mastering from the original tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio and presented in a tip-on jacket. The Cats highlights Coltrane's evolving tenor alongside Flanagan's piano and Burrell's guitar, with Idrees Sulieman's trumpet and the tight swing of Watkins and Hayes driving the rhythm.
