“Papers on the War” is Daniel Ellsberg's second public contribution to ending the American intervention in Vietiam. Believing that the war still "needs not only to be resisted; it remains to be understood," Mr. Ellsberg has brought together and revised those of his papers that best help to explain the underlying reasons for the policies and strategies that have created America's longest, most futile, and least defensible war. The result is a book that is as urgent as it is illuminating, one which draws directly upon Mr. Ellsberg's virtually unique range of experience as a participant, as a field observer, an analyst, and a critic of our role in Vietnam.
