Description

The professional music critic, as distinct from the composer-author or the literary amateur, was not in a position to be 'useful' until the nineteenth century. Eduard Hanslick may be called the first fully professional critic. He is remembered today largely as the original of Wagner's pedantic villain in The Mastersingers.

Published 1963, Peregrine Book.

Binding of book is intact. Heavy foxing and shelfwear on covers of book. Some tanning and moderate foxing on edges of book. Moderate foxing on insides of covers. Annotation in pen on title page. Some foxing on certain pages.
