Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience depict the union between the literary word and the visual image. This book is also a facsimile edition of Blake's celebrated "Illuminated Books", and reproduces a collection of calligraphed poems, each enclosed in a masterful full-color illustration. These two books, when read in order, chart Blake's growth as a hopeful man in his youth, and gradually towards a mote critical view of the world after witnessing poverty and cruelty as he grows up.
