Description: For years, Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre has captivated and entranced readers and critics alike. Jane Eyre is definitely our curator's favourite Victorian classic, for it is a book so rich and full of the world that life explodes with imagination even around bleak corners. Wide Sargasso Sea is often thought to be a feminist prequel to Brontë's Jane Eyre. Don't go searching up its synopsis though: it would spoil a climax for you in Jane Eyre. Our curator prefers reading Wide Sargasso Sea after Jane Eyre, but thinking of it as a text that opens with possibilities to the lives before the characters in Brontë's novel.
