Description

David Longstreth expands Dirty Projectors into a sweeping orchestral cycle with Song of the Earth, performed by Dirty Projectors with the Berlin-based chamber ensemble s t a r g a z e. Inspired by Gustav Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde and climate-era anxieties, the 24-track work blends intimate vocal harmonies with lush orchestral textures and guests including Steve Lacy and Phil Elverum. The project premiered in Hamburg and has toured Amsterdam, London, and Los Angeles, with a studio recording released on April 4, 2025. Released by Nonesuch, Song of the Earth marks Longstreth's most expansive composition project to date.
