The God Chasers : My Soul Follows Hard After Three

from $5.14

Unit price
per

What is a God Chaser? A God chaser is an individual who hunger exceeds his reach. A God chaser is a person whose passion for God's presence presses him to chase the impossible in hopes that the uncatchable might catch him. A child chases a loving parent until, suddenly, the strong arms of the father enfold the chaser. The pursuer becomes the captive; the pursued the captor. Paul put it this way: "I chase after that I may catch that which apprehended me" (Phil. 3:12). Job was a God chaser. He said, " Oh that I knew where I might find Him!" David was one; he said, "My soul followeth hard after Thee." Paul was one too: "That I may know Him...." The passionate paths of God chasers can be traced across the pages of history from Moses the stutterer, David the singer, and Paul the itinerant preacher, to contemporaries like A.W. Tozer, Leonard Ravenhill, and countless others who share one common bond: an insatiable hunger to know their Lord. These are people who relentless, passionate pursuit of Christ often made them appear foolish in the eyes of others. Yet, having tasted His goodness and glimpsed the invisible, they could be satisfied with nothing less. "I must warn you, this is a dangerous book. If you are comfortable and complacent and want to stay that way, don't even open its pages!" -Cindy Jacobs, Co-founder, Generals of Intercession "The God Chasers is not for the fainthearted but for those who, in pursuit of God, are willing to die in the process."-Ken Gott, Revival Now!, Sunderland, United Kingdom

Let The Nations Be Glad! - The Supremacy Of God In Missions

from $1.53

Unit price
per

Why do we do missions? We are told, by Jesus, to preach the gospel and make disciples of all nations. So missions is duty, right? Wrong. If you do missions purely from a sense of duty you will not honor those you are reaching out to, nor will you truly honor God. Duty is the wrong place to look, so where do we find the answer to why we do missions? We turn, according to John Piper, to worship. // In our worship of God we encounter God's glory. The overflow from our worship is a desire to share God's glory with others (the chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever), and we naturally become missional. When Jesus was asked what the kingdom of God was like, he compared it to a pearl so valuable that one would sell all they owned simply to possess it. Does that seem like duty to you? Instead, Jesus calls us to a new mindset, which flows from the mindset that worship creates in us. Thus, according to Piper, does worship become the goal of missions and the fuel which makes missions possible. // Worship as the fuel for missions makes sense to a lot of people, but worship as the goal of missions? Piper reminds us that the true reason we share God with others is to make them worshipers (and sharers) as well. He feels that the true goal of missions is "the gladness of the peoples in the greatness of God." If it is true, (as Piper states) that "God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him," then increasing the number of people who are satisfied in God will bring God more glory. And missions is the way we can do that. // Missions must be seen as more than simply saving people from sin, though that is a very important aspect. And missions is not just about getting people into heaven, although that is important as well. Instead, through missions we should always seek to make as many people as possible into true worshipers, into those fully satisfied with the greatness of God. // With that mindset, missions becomes a joyous experience, as we joyfully share the life-changing presence of God in our lives with those who don't know God. When we have made worship both the fuel and goal of all our missionary endeavors, we realize that "missions is not a recruitment project for God's labor force. It is a liberation project from the heavy burdens and hard yokes of other gods." Missions is never a burden, because it comes out of our overwhelming joy in God's grace and mercy, and we just want to share that joy. So make God the center of your missions work, and joyfully share what He has graciously given to you.

Cloister Walk

from $7.01

Unit price
per

Why would a married woman with a thoroughly Protestant background and often more doubt than faith be drawn to the ancient practice of monasticism, to a community of celibate men whose days are centered around a rigid schedule of prayer, work, and scripture? This is the question that poet Kathleen Norris asks us as, somewhat to her own surprise, she found herself on two extended residencies at St. John's Abbey in Minnesota. Part record of her time among the Benedictines, part meditation on various aspects of monastic life, The Cloister Walk demonstrates, from the rare perspective of someone who is both an insider and outsider, how immersion in the cloistered world -- its liturgy, its ritual, its sense of community -- can impart meaning to everyday events and deepen our secular lives. In this stirring and lyrical work, the monastery, often considered archaic or otherworldly, becomes immediate, accessible, and relevant to us, no matter what our faith may be.* A New York Times bestseller for 23 weeks* A New York Times Notable Book of the Year

Gary Thomas, one of this generation's most trusted writers about the spiritual life, explores what it means to build a life of true pleasure - one that will liberate your spiritual life, marriage, family, community, and outreach. Are You Tired of Comfortable Christianity?Disciples. Most Christians know little other than Christ had twelve of them and that He commissioned these men to make disciples of all nations. But just what is a 20th-century disciple and how do you go about becoming one?Walt Henrichsen not only describes a modern disciple but explains how to make disciples of others. It's a process that begins with sharing the Good News of the Gospel and doesn't end until you've shared your life so completely with another person that he is fully committed to similar spiritual service.Discipleship is real sacrifice, but the reward is great-the satisfaction of knowing you have followed obediently in the footsteps of the Disciple-Maker Himself, Jesus Christ.Walt Henrichsen, for many years associated with The Navigators in a leadership role, has since 1977 headed a discipling ministry for lay Christians in the business world. He has written a number of books, including this classic, first published in 1974. There is a solution to every problem. All it takes is a higher perspective. I am living proof that God can resolve the complexities of our internal challenges, and my journey has persuaded me that no matter what brokenness we experience in our lives, He has the power to make us whole again. All we have to do is look up. For years, I struggled with obsessive-compulsive thinking and behavior. I was paralyzed by irrational fear and plagued by intense psychological torment. Traversing through twisted mazes of broken logic, I eventually surrendered to the only Hope I had ever known. In the midst of darkness and confusion, I found the Light, and God revealed once again His undeniable power to deliver souls, transform thinking, and change lives forever.

Though Satan has no right to rule in a believer's life, he can subtly build a stronghold--brick by brick, layer by layer--until he is a dominating force in your life. Mark Bubeck asserts that spiritual warfare requires careful preparation, biblical obedience, and persistent prayer. The Adversary prowls, but he's already been beaten. This book is an essential follow-up to the bestselling The Adversary, in which Bubeck helps Christians grasp prayer practices that enable a victorious walk.
