💌 #4: When to NOT judge a book by its cover 👀

'cos ngl, we sometimes do 🙈

Hey there,

Because we’re such a small team, we’ve all had to be hands-on in running Thryft! This means involving ourselves in and across different scopes of work. In a week we’re coding, we’re creating content and we’re processing for inventory at the same time 😵‍💫

As a result, we’ve handled personally most of what goes up in our store. Of the hundreds of items we list weekly, of course there is always something we’re particularly excited to see! It’s this wonder – when we chance across an illustrated edition of a book we’ve held dear, or a pretty row of buttons on a dress – that we’ve wanted to share with you.

The thing is, Shopify, Instagram and Email don’t lend themselves well to featuring specific items, and images in our store do need to be functional, so we can’t pay these items the attention we think they deserve…

🌰 TL;DR 🌰

Follow us on Telegram! 😉

Starting Marketplace in our Telegram channel!

That's why we’re starting on Telegram a new series of posts, called Marketplace 🧺🌿

In these posts, we’re featuring sets of new listings (we’ve started with books and vintage books and will move on to clothes and records when the time comes!) Each listing is a set of photos and/or video clips of details of items we love and find interesting, with prices and links to items in our store for easy browsing.

Here's our first (ever) Marketplace post! We post listings as comments on posts.

In clips, we flip through pages of books, such as these (beautiful) spreads in Singapore Artists.

When we can, we share extracts we find intriguing. Here’s Lin Yutang’s reflection on lying in bed, in The Importance of Living, and aphorisms on humanity, from The Faber Book of Aphorisms!

We might take photos of pages we find useful, such as content pages (as we did for The Common Sense of Science), and notes from authors, editors or translators (here's a Translator's Note from The Quest for Proust).

Write us!

If there is perhaps an aspect of, or a detail to a book, or a piece of clothing you’d like to see more of!

Otherwise, join us on Telegram! We’d love for you to fall in love with our favourite items too 🥹

Sincerely,

Thryft
